Methods: Antimicrobial study report 1 on ION-ZC1 In vitro on 12 different common hospital acquired gram negative, gram positive bacterial and fungal species. A none-biofilm antimicrobial assay using broth microdilution-based sensitivity. Review of the antimicrobial activity of different concentrations of ION-ZC1 by the method of microdilution in broth following the standard guidelines of CLSI (conditions without biofilm). Twelve of the main pathogens indicated by the World Health Organization were used in the present study. K. pneumoniae, E. faecalis, S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, Proteus mirabilis, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, C. Krusei, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Results: The antimicrobial activity of ION-ZC1 was performed by the method of microdilution in broth according to the standard guidelines of CLSI (conditions without biofilm). The final test concentration varied from 0.008 to 4.25% for ION-ZC1. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were determined after 24 hours as the lowest concentration at which a prominent decrease (50%) in turbidity was observed.
Conclusions: In vitro applications of ION-ZC1 over
six bacterial strains and six fungal strains were isolated, and all
strains had 50% turbidity in less than 24 hours at a maximum diluted
concentration of 2.1% (v/v). The results showed that the MIC values for
the bacterial strains tested were in the range of 0.3-2.1% (v/v), with
ION-ZC1 being most effective against the Staphylococcus aureus strain
(0.354% v/v), and less effective against the Pseudomonas aeruginosa
strain (2.125% v/v) in this test comparison. For the fungi, the MIC
values were 10-100 times lower (more effective against fungal strains),
i.e. the MIC values were in the range of > 0.008% - 0.1773% (v/v).
ION-ZC1 was more effective against Candida glabrata strain (> 0.008%
v/v). and less effective against Candida tropicalis strain (0.1773% v/v
t) in this test comparison. All fungal and bacterial strains were tested
with ION-ZC1 concentrations below 2.125% v/v observed turbidity of 50%
within the 24 hour test period.
